Bobby Sherman’s Main Street

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

The former teen idol has recreated Disney’s Main Street USA at 1/5 Scale. Via BoingBoing, of course.

Incidentally, Main Street USA itself is 7/8th scale on the first floor, and a third story is created from two story structures through forced perspective. So Bobby Sherman has created a miniature of a miniature of the platonic ideal of small town USA. But don’t worry: if this much postmodernism makes you vomit, cast members will swoop in with sawdust before you can say “Baudrillard”.

One second show

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

BoingBoing reports that the White Stripes played a one-second show in Newfoundland:

Buzz had been building around the city for hours about a secret show, which became a hallmark of the group’s unorthodox tour across Canada. The two-member band, for instance, played in a Halifax pool hall and on a bridge in Winnipeg.

Shortly before the suppertime show on George Street, fans were told the White Stripes would play just a single note. Hundreds of fans were able to make it to the stage in time to see the briefest of concerts.

The crowd cheered loudly after the Stripes played their one note, took a bow, and left the stage.

Video here. Smallist or not, this seems pretty asinine to me.
